KAMAS — A South Salt Lake man died in a rollover crash near the Mirror Lake Highway early Monday.
Sometime between midnight and 12:45 a.m., a 22-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman, who is from Ogden, were driving down Upper Setting Road when their truck “left the roadway and rolled down the steep embankment more than 100 yards,” according to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.
The man driving the vehicle was ejected and killed, according to the sheriff’s office. The woman was knocked unconscious, but was able to climb back to the road to get help after waking up, according to police.
The woman told deputies that the couple had been camping in the Upper Setting area and were waiting for friends to join them. When the friends failed to show, the couple decided to drive to Kamas to get cellphone reception and call them, the woman told investigators.
“The last thing the woman remembers was their truck rolling down the mountainside. It is unknown at this time what caused them to leave the roadway,” the sheriff's office stated.
The name of the deceased man was not immediately released pending notification of family.
