A lantern rises into the sky as friends and family hold a candlelight vigil for the victims of a July 25 airplane crash in West Jordan on Saturday. Three people aboard the plane — the pilot, Lee Wyckoff, 43, Wyckoff’s 9-month-old daughter Coral and Milda Shibonis, 36 — were killed when the Piper PA-32 crashed into the backyard of a home at 3847 Piccadilly Circle (8710 South), setting the house on fire. Mary Quintana, 72, who was sitting on the outside deck of her home when the crash occurred, died of her injuries two days later. The pilot’s wife, Rebecca Wyckoff, 36, and Cody Mitchell, 2, Wycoff’s son, sustained critical injuries. Amazingly, Veda Sheperd, 12, who is Shibonis’ daughter, walked away from the crash. She was later treated at a local hospital and was released the same day. According to officials, the plane took off from South Valley Regional Airport in West Jordan and was headed to Page, Arizona.
