OGDEN — An Ogden man is facing an attempted murder charge after allegedly firing five rounds into a car, critically injuring a man inside.
In addition to that first-degree felony, Cedric Broadnax, 36, was charged Tuesday in 2nd District Court with five counts of felony discharge of a firearm resulting in injury, a second-degree felony; and possession of a weapon by a restricted person, a third-degree felony.
On Sunday, Broadnax shot a man twice as the victim was getting into his car in a parking lot near 242 24th St., according to charging documents.
The man’s girlfriend told police she was accosted by Broadnax minutes earlier, the charges state.
“(The victim) had confronted the suspect after seeing him accost (his girlfriend) but parties separated and went different directions,” according to the charges.
Video recorded by nearby business surveillance cameras showed Broadnax accosting the woman, “and then following her’s and (the victim’s) path toward the parking lot,” the charges state.
After the shooting, detectives developed information leading them to Broadnax, who was taken into custody by the Ogden Metro SWAT team at his apartment at 194 25th St.
The victim, who is not named in court documents, was still in critical condition at a local hospital at the time of the charges being filed.
Broadnax has protective orders filed against him in Washington and California, making it illegal for him to possess a firearm, the charges state.
