SALT LAKE CITY — Northern Utah police say a Cache County man put a zip tie around a woman's neck and tightened it until she lost consciousness.

Caden Rodney Peterson, 28, of Hyde Park, Cache County, was charged Monday in 1st District Court with aggravated kidnapping, a first-degree felony; aggravated assault, a second-degree felony; and domestic violence in the presence of a child, a third-degree felony.

On Sept. 16, Peterson got into an argument at a residence in Hyde Park, according to a police affidavit.

“As the dispute progressed, Caden allegedly placed a zip tie over the victim’s neck and tightened it to the point that she lost consciousness,” according to a police affidavit.

When she regained consciousness, the woman said Peterson dragged her by her hair into another room “where he zip tied her wrists to a piece of furniture and began punching her body and face,” the affidavit states.

The woman tried to walk away after she was released, prompting Peterson to push her down, sit on her and punch her legs, “only stopping after a young child awoke and saw what was occurring,” according to the affidavit.

Police observed “significant” injuries to the woman’s legs, face and neck, the affidavit states. A small patch of hair was missing from her scalp. The injuries included severe bruising, including finger marks on her arms consistent with being held down with force, and marking around the neck consistent with the application of a ligature.

“The involved individuals also have a substantial history involving domestic dispute/violence related incidents,” police noted in their affidavit.
