CLEARFIELD — A man who police say opened fire on a group of people at a large party in Clearfield was arrested over the weekend.

Michael Eric Hernandez, 21, was booked into the Davis County Jail on Sunday for investigation of attempted murder and three counts of aggravated assault.

Police were called to the area of 150 North and 500 West about 12:40 a.m. on a report of multiple shots being fired and said between 50 to 75 people were at Hernandez’s residence for a party. He told police he was trying to get people to leave, but “there was a group of four or five males who were giving him a hard time about leaving,” according to a police booking affidavit.

Hernandez claimed the men assaulted him on his front porch. He responded by going back into his house, getting a gun and then going outside and firing five rounds at four men as they ran away, the affidavit states.
