A Holocaust survivor threw acid in the face of an Israeli attorney for Nazi war criminal John Demjanjuk during a funeral Thursday for another Demjanjuk lawyer who died in an apparent suicide.
The attack on attorney Yoram Sheftel injured one of his eyes, police and a hospital spokesman said. A woman standing nearby suffered a minor eye injury from the splashed acid, police said.Police said they detained the assailant, a 70-year-old survivor of the Nazi Holocaust, after the attack, which occurred at the Sanhedria Cemetery during the funeral for Demjanjuk lawyer Dov Eitan.
Reporters who covered the 14-month trial of Demjanjuk said the assailant, whose name was not released, was a frequent spectator at the proceedings.
The assailant was seen being dragged away, covering his face with his hands.
