A former mental patient suspected of killing three people in New Mexico and a guard at a Hollywood film studio told paramedics rushing him to a hospital after a shootout with a deputy sheriff that God told him "to shoot somebody," it was reported Friday.

The gunman without warning opened fire about 5:40 p.m. Thursday, shooting two unarmed security guards in the head at the guard station outside an employee gate to Universal Studios, a movie and television studio and amusement park.Guard Jeren Beeks, 27, of La Crescenta, who had recently switched to the night shift, was killed. The wounded guard, Armando Enrique Torres, 18, was in critical condition Friday at Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank.
