The 6-foot-1 point guard from Gonzaga needed 14 assists to break the NBA single-season mark of 1,123 set by Detroit's Isiah Thomas during the 1984-85 season. He got the record-breaker early in the third quarter on a feed to Thurl Bailey inside and finished the game with 18 assists and a career-high 27 points."There was a lot of enthusiasm about it on this team and that was fun. Everybody on the team shared in it and everybody else was more excited about it than I was," the fourth-year Jazz player said. Details on Stockton's performance and Utah's 125-107 victory, which increased their franchise single-season win record to 47, are on D1.
