City Councilman Darrell Saunders says art depicting full frontal nudity should be banned from city-sponsored galleries.

Saunders says a recent display at the Union Station Myra Powell Art Gallery included works that included paintings of nude males in "almost photographic" clarity."It is trash," and not suitable for families or school-aged children, Saunders said during a recent City Council meeting, referring to works by Dell Kinyon Taylor.

City Attorney Norman Ashton advised the council that they are dealing with certain constitutional rights outlined in the First Amendment. But Saunders remarked, "We have our rights as a community to set certain standards."

Mayor Clifford Goff supported Saunders, adding that he felt the city would not be remiss in addressing the issue.
