East German Gabriele Reinsch set a world record for the women's discus Saturday, with a throw of 249 feet, 7 inches at a meet between East Germany and Italy.

Reinsch's throw - 76.80 in meters - was 7-4 (2.24 meters) longer than the previous record of 244-7 (74.56 meters) set Aug. 26, 1984 by Czechoslovakia's Zdenka Silhava.
