Kimberly Diane Leach, 12, disappears from the Lake City Junior High School. Her body is found two months later in a pig sty some 35 miles away.

Bundy is arrested in Pensacola, Fla., on charges of resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer. Some 67 counts of auto theft, burglary and theft charges are added to the complaint. He spends the next five months in a Tallahassee jail pending a preliminary hearing.

Bundy is indicted for the Chi Omega murders. He tears up the indictment and screams at police officers, "That's all you're going to get, an indictment."

Two hours after pleading not guilty to the Chi Omega murders, Bundy is charged with kidnapping and murdering Kimberly Leach.

Florida prison authorities thwart an escape attempt by Bundy. Guards discovered a loose prison bar, along with hacksaw blades.

Bundy's first death warrant "expires" after the U.S. Supreme Court grants a stay of execution to hear Bundy's appeal on grounds that his Miami trial for the Chi Omega killings was unfair. Earlier attempts to have the high court hear his appeals had failed.

The U.S. Supreme Court rejects Bundy's appeal and opens the way for a new death warrant.

Florida Gov. Bob Graham signs a second death warrant specifying Bundy be executed July 2 for the Chi Omega killings.

A 24-hour stay of execution is granted to allow Bundy time to file appeals with the federal courts. Fifteen hours before his scheduled July 3 execution, an indefinite stay of execution is granted by the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta.

Bundy is granted a stay of execution six hours before his scheduled executionwhen the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta sent the case back to Florida courts for an evidentiary hearing. The appeals court, and later the U.S. Supreme Court, rejected the appeal.
