Court-martial proceedings opened Tuesday in the case of a base sergeant charged with selling more than $500 worth of government property to an FBI-run storefront sting operation.

Sgt. Jeffrey A. Moses, 22, is with the 388th Aircraft Generation Squadron at Hill. He is one of more than 50 Hill military and civilian members charged with various offenses in the sting operation, called "Operation Punchout."Moses, from Boss, Md., is charged with illegally selling $574.90 worth of military equipment. A six-member military jury was seated Tuesday, and the court-martial proceedings are expected to run through Thursday.

Two other HAFB sergeants were acquitted by juries after their court proceedings on similar charges and several other cases have been delayed, with no new date set.

The sting operation was set up by the FBI and the Air Force Office of Special Investigation (OSI) to investigate thefts from military installations around the West.

As part of the investigation, an FBI-run military surplus store and pawn shop was set up in Roy, with agents acting as store employees. The transactions, including customers bringing in military supplies and gear to sell, were secretly videotaped.
