A Salt Lake youth and an Arizona man were killed and four others injured during two separate accidents on Utah roads this weekend.
KILLED:Adrian Juarez, 15, 1472 Cheyenne St.
Jason James Bennett, 24, Tuba City, Ariz.
Salt Lake police said Juarez was on his bicycle in the crosswalk at 700 West and 1300 South when he was struck and killed by a semitrailer truck driven by Dane Newland, Salt Lake City.
The teenager was hit about 5:10 p.m. as the westbound truck turned north onto 700 West from 1300 South. Police were unable to identify the boy until late Friday.
Bennett was a passenger in a car driven by Jimmy Nockindeneh, 33, Hawthorne, Nev. Nockindeneh was driving northbound on I-15 when he apparently fell asleep and collided with an abandoned car at the side of the road, a Utah Highway Patrol dispatcher said. The accident occurred about 4:30 a.m., approximately three miles north of the Utah-Arizona border.
The driver and Bennett's family, who were also traveling in the vehicle, also suffered injuries. Bennett's wife, Linda Bennett, 21, and Jason Bennett Jr., 6, were treated at Dixie Medical Center in St. George and then released. Jacinda Bennett, 1, and Nockindeneh were admitted to the hospital and were in stable condition Saturday, a nursing supervisor said.
