Bonnie Reese, who devoted more than 30 years to the art of crafting legislation as director of the Legislative Council, died of cancer Monday at her home. She was 58.

Ms. Reese directed the Legislative Council, the main research arm of the State Legislature, since 1971, and was an employee of the agency since 1957. She fought her second bout with cancer during the past year and re-entered the University of Wisconsin-Madison Hospital and Clinics on Nov. 17.She directed a staff of more than 30 people who study ways of dealing with issues. Ms. Reese was born in Logan and received a bachelor's degree in political science from Utah State University in 1953.

In 1985, Utah State honored her with its distinguished service award. Friends said services would be held in Logan.
