Provo's home occupation ordinance requires the following:

-A home business may employ only those who live at the residence.

-It cannot take up more than 25 percent of the total floor area of the home.

-Inventory and supplies for the business cannot take up more than 50 percent of the business area.

-Display of customer services or sale of goods, wares and merchandise is prohibited.

-Signs or other advertising are generally prohibited.

-The business can't require mechanical or electrical apparatus, tools or equipment not normally used in a home.

-Maintenance, service or equipment vehicles or vehicles bearing advertising associated with the business must be garaged or stored in a building or structure.

-The business can't generate pedestrian or vehicular traffic greater than that customarily associated with the area.

-It can't require municipal or utility services in excess of those customarily provided for residential uses.

-It cannot alter the residential character of the premises visually or acoustically or cause television or radio interference.

-It must meet other requirements established by the Planning Commission.

-It must have a permit that is renewed annually.

-Businesses that gross less than $10,000 per year must obtain a $20 home occupation permit. Businesses that gross over $10,000 per year must obtain a business license, but do not have to have a home occupation permit.
