The Utah State Poetry Society has named its winners for the 1989 competition.

Maryan Paxton of Salt Lake City was named Poet of the Year for her book, "Downward Toward Night."Second place in the book category went to Pearl M. Olsen. Donna K. Mackert took third. Other first-place winners were:
