The use of so-called tropical oils by U.S. food manufacturers has fallen considerably in recent years, but the Agriculture Department says it won't make much difference economically.

Imported products such as palm oil, palm kernel oil and coconut oil have been attacked by many U.S. farm and consumer interests because of their high levels of saturated fats.The department's Economic Research Service says only about 4 percent of the fats and oils the United States used last year were tropical oils.
