The Paris Liberty Flame, unveiled by Mayor Jacques Chirac, is an exact duplicate of the golden flame atop the Statue of Liberty in New York City. The flame is intended to memorialize the longstanding friendship between France and the United States. It is located near the Eiffel Tower, built in 1889, which has recently been the object of 100-year festivities in France.
