Many people believe the hope of America rests in the hands of its children.
To recognize a few of those kids who help give others faith in the country's future, the Hope of America award is presented to 36 sixth-grade students each year in Provo under Kiwanis Club sponsorship.The announcement of award winners at Provo elementary schools was made Friday by school principals and a Kiwanis Club member. Two sixth graders, one boy and one girl (four in the larger schools) are recognized each year.
At Canyon Crest Elementary, the Hope of America award went to Brad Huber, Deborah Farmer and Barbara Tanner. At Edgemont Elementary it went to Autumn Eddy, Amy Groesbeck, Scott Gourdin and Michael Helquist.
At Franklin, Tacie Stewart and Doug Herrin received the award and at Grandview winners were Rosalyn Collings and Brian Cope. Joaquin award winners were David Rowbury and Michael Mella.
Maeser presented Jacob Hoehne and Emily Jordan with the award and Provost gave the award to Clair Carson and Craig Cloward. Rock Canyon awards went to Cortney Gerstner, Derek Kearl, Heather Jackson and Matt Johnson.
Sunset View winners were Regina Carter, Jacob Campbell, Sherri Smith and Kimberly Keller. Timpanogos presented Devon Guymon, Haley Hanson, Jennifer Engle, Christopher DeMartini and Elizabeth Rose with the award.
Wasatch awards went to Stephanie Pederson and Robert Ord and Westridge winners were Jed Wood, Karen Carter, Layne Benzley and Sally Schneider.
Students are selected based upon their academic history, standardized test performance, behavior and citizenship, service orientation, and their positive influence on others.
