Amtrak will resume operation of its Montrealer service between Washington and Montreal on July 18.

The overnight train was discontinued in April 1987 because of deteriorated track. Since then, most of the train's fromer stations in Massachusetts and Vermont have been linked by bus.The Montrealer will travel by way of New London, Conn. and Amherst, Mass., until further track repairs are made between Springfield and East Northfield, Mass.

Amtrak has added a station stop at Claremont Junction, N.H., the first time Amtrak has had a stop in that state. The run takes about an hour longer than on the old route.

Trains north leave Washington daily at 4:20 p.m., and continue out of New York at 8:20 p.m., arriving in Montreal at 10:45 a.m.

Southbound trains leave montreal at 5:10 p.m., arriving in New York at 7:35 a.m. and in Washington at 11:39 a.m.

Round-trip excursion fares, are $146 between Washington and Montreal $94 between New York and Montreal. Sleeping accommodations are extra; reservations (800-872-7245) are needed for all tickets north of New York.
