Although Utah has a comparatively small group of students in the Future Business Leaders of America, the youths took a goodly share of awards in recent national competition.
Of about 5,000 participants nationwide, 110 were from Utah. Meetings were held in Orlando, Fla., July 3-9, said Scott Knell, state advisor and Olympus High School business teacher.The Utah winners included:
Davis High School Chapter won first place in the Partnership with Business Project which involved students Jewalene Hartley, John Steele and Loren Mansell; fourth place in American Enterprise Proj-ect and fourth place in Community Service Project.
Olympus High School Chapter won fifth place in the Community Service Project.
Kanab High School Chapter (Tony Alejendro and Jessica Shumway), took seventh in the Partnership with Business Project.
Sharilyn Horner, Wasatch High School, was noted in Who's Who in FBLA and Rosalie Payne, San Juan High School, was named Outstanding Local Adviser.
Trent Beal, Taylorsville High, won 10th in accounting 2; Brian Walton, Orem, sixth in business calculations; and Randy Reynolds, also of Orem, ninth. William Layton, Timpview High, was sixth in computer concepts; Heidi Hubrich, Alta High, second in economics; Jens Jorgensen, Timpview, eighth in information processing; and Celia Groves, Bingham High, fifth in shorthand 2.
