Bernie Kosar's new contract extension will pay him $15 million over six years, making him one of the highest-paid players in the National Football League, a newspaper reported Saturday.

An unnamed source told The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer the recently negotiated deal, which goes into effect next season, averages $2.5 million a year, including bonuses and base salary. Kosar will earn $1 million this year, the last year of his original five-year Browns' contract. The Plain Dealer reported that the source said Kosar's new contract includes a $3 million signing bonus, which will be paid in varying installments over the life of the deal.
