Nine new tenants will open outlets next month in Crossroads Plaza's remodeled Richards Street Marketplace.

The Richards Street level, the basement floor of the downtown shopping mall, is undergoing a $6 million face lift to increase sales potential of the floor. Grand opening ceremonies of the remodeled Richards Street Marketplace level will be Aug. 3, said plaza manager David Neilson."It's been fantastic," he said of the remodeling's initial results. "Some tenants are reporting 60 percent increases in sales."

Moving into the level's new food court in August will be California Hot Dog, Mr. B's, Rotisserie Chicken and Chic-Fil-A.

Opening kiosk locations on the renovated basement level will be The Sunglass Hut, a California company selling eyewear and accessories; and Earrestible, a local retailer of earrings and costume jewelry.

Leasing retail space in the north and south ends of the Richard's Street level will be Blotters, offering spin-art decorations on clothing and other items; Beach Graffiti, selling swim suits and beachwear; and Swiss Colony, a vendor of cheese, sausage and other prepared foods.

Plaza officials also said Mrs. Fields Cookies Inc., which has an outlet on the mall's first level, is considering opening a new bakery and cafe on the Richards Street level. Mrs. Fields chairman Randy Fields declined to disclose details of the new store - the first in Utah - until the deal is finalized.
