In the middle of their Southern California Summer League schedule, the Jazz have made one roster change. Wednesday, they added forward Mel Braxton and cut forward Darrell Battles, player personnel director Scott Layden announced.

The 6-foot-7 Braxton played at Long Beach State in 1986-87 after transferring from New Mexico State. He was playing in Los Angeles with a free-agent team and was spotted by Layden. The 6-6 Battles, a rookie from Southern University, played in the Jazz's rookie-free agent camp last week at Westminster College. The moves leave the Jazz with nine players, with first-round draft choice Blue Edwards still missing.The Jazz (1-1) face the L.A. Clippers' entry Thursday night, continuing their seven-game schedule. Tuesday, they downed New Jersey 117-111. The Jazz's three veterans led the way as Eric Leckner scored 31 points, Jim Les had 22 and Jose Ortiz added 20. Forward Dave Colbert continued to play well with 14 points, while forward Raymond Brown also had 14 and guard Joe Hillman had 10. Second-year forward Chris Morris led the Nets with 21.
