The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., sponsor of the National Highway Hero Program, is looking for America's outstanding heroic truck driver and will award the trucker a $20,000 U.S. savings bond in February at the Daytona 500 auto race in Florida.

The winner will follow in the footsteps of Tommy Smith, a Paragould, Ark., trucker who climbed into a wrecked and burning auto to rescue two motorists.Nominations for the award, covering heroic deeds or acts of unusual humanitarianism above and beyond the call of duty between Oct. 1, 1988, and Sept. 30, 1989, will be accepted through Oct. 15, 1989, Goodyear officials say.

Entry forms appear in Goodyear advertisements and may be obtained by writing to Highway Hero Award Nomination Headquarters, 2100-201 N. Woodward Ave., Bloomfield Hills, Mich. 48013. Nominations can also be sent to that address.
