Alain Prost, who claimed world titles in 1985 and 1986 at the wheel of a McLaren, Friday said he would leave the British Formula One auto racing team in 1990.
Prost, however, said he had not yet decided what he would be doing next year or further in the future."I have not planned anything for next year," Prost said. "Nothing is decided yet. I feel very comfortable now that I made the decision to stop with McLaren."
The 34-year-old Frenchman has been linked with a possible entry into Formula One by French auto maker Peugeot and, more recently, with the British-based Williams-Renault team.
Prost, whose 36 career victories are the most of any Grand Prix driver in history, said his decision to leave had nothing to do with his well-publicized dispute with teammate Ayrton Senna, the current world champion.
The two have been at odds since the San Marino Grand Prix in April, when Senna reneged on an agreement not to challenge for the lead at the first corner for reasons of safety.
