The hottest scientific journal in biology and medicine is a magazine called Cell, according to one measure of success.
Cell, a Cambridge-based magazine carrying reports on molecular and cellular biology, topped an annual survey of high-impact publications in life sciences, conducted by the Institute for Scientific Information.Cell was followed closely by the New England Journal of Medicine, a weekly magazine for doctors, and two general science magazines, Science and Nature.
The institute calculates the journals' impact by counting the number of times their articles are cited by researchers in other scientific reports.
Cell has held the No. 1 spot in eight of the past 10 years. It was topped by the New England Journal only in 1983 and 1985.
