A man-caused fire that burned 60 acres on Maple Mountain east of Provo was officially declared out at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Firefighters contained the fire at 9 a.m. Saturday; two fire crews spent the day on Maple Mountain, extinguishing minor flare-ups, reseeding the burned area and doing erosion control work.Officials have not yet finished an investigation into the cause of the fire, although they have ruled out natural causes such as lightning.

The fire began shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday above the Seven Peaks Water Park. Firefighters from Provo city and the Uinta National Forest Service responded within 15 minutes of being notified but were hampered in fighting it because of steep terrain, rolling rocks, high winds and a lack of sufficient manpower and resources. A total crew of 100 from various agencies were eventually called to the scene to fight the blaze.
