Tim Wengerd, a founder of the Utah Repertory Dance Theatre and a well-known dancer in Utah, died Sept. 12, 1989, in Albuquerque at the age of 44.

Wengerd helped form RDT in 1965 and choreographed 10 works before leaving the company in 1973 to dance with the world-famous Martha Graham Dance Company in New Mexico.In 1982 he left that company to pursue an independent career as an artist, teacher and choreographer.

He danced in Utah in 1985 for the 20th anniversary performance of RDT.

Wengerd graduated Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude from the Fine Arts College at the University of Utah in 1969.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Oct. 8 in the First Congregational Church in Albuquerque.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Tim Wengerd Dance Fund, Development Office, University of Utah. Contributions will be used to fund a yearly scholarship in dance at the U.
