Lois Ashton Kjar Brown, wife of Elder Victor L. Brown, of the First Quorum of the Seventy of The

Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 1989, at her home of natural causes. She was 74.Mrs. Brown, a woman of rare charm and gifted with a delightful sense of humor, will be remembered for her many talents that she freely shared.

She was born May 13, 1915, in Salt Lake City to Joseph Edward and Effie Morris Ashton Kjar. Her father was a member of the Criterion Quartet, which was closely tied to the history of KSL-Radio. As a young pianist, Mrs. Brown sometimes played with them.

She attended Salt Lake schools and was in the last graduating class of LDS High School. She continued her education at Brigham Young University and the University of Utah.

She was married to Elder Brown on Nov. 13, 1936, in the Salt Lake Temple.

Church assignments played an important role in her life. She held many positions, including Relief Society organist, Primary chorister, and was a visiting teacher. Most recently, she was matron of the Salt Lake Temple.

Her testimony of the Savior was manifested through service and love for her community and especially for her family.

Mrs. Brown said her own mother set an example of love and devotion toward home and family that she tried to emulate. Because of Elder Brown's position with United Air Lines, the family moved often. They lived in Washington, D.C., Chicago and Denver before settling in Salt Lake City.

Mrs. Brown said the family was able to make the moves easily "because we always gravitate to the church wherever we go. We always find friendship, love and a sincere welcome."

Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband, Victor; three sons and two daughters, Victor L. Jr., Citrus Heights, Calif.; Gerald E., Alta Loma, Calif.; Stephen M., Salt Lake City; Joanne B. Soderborg, Murray; Patricia B. Glade, Salt Lake City; 26 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers and three sisters.

The funeral will be Wednesday noon in the Eagle Gate Second Ward, 135 A St. Friends may call Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, and Wednesday at the church an hour before the service. Burial will be in Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
