The Alpine Board of Education is considering realigning the boundary between Orem and Westmore elementary schools because of the amount of residential growth in the vicinity of 800 South and 300 West in Orem.
The boundary was arbitrarily drawn between the two schools several years ago, said Luana G. Searle, assistant superintendent of Alpine School District. The boundary runs on a diagonal from 400 West and 800 South through a subdivision to 600 South.
Children living on the north side of the boundary have attended Orem Elementary, while those living on the south side have attended Westmore. At the time, much of the area bisected by the line was undeveloped.
Under the proposal, the southern boundary for Orem Elementary will be 800 South and the east boundary will be 250 West.
Families will be permitted to send their children to the school they are currently attending.
New families will be asked to send their children to the school designated for their area.
