The University of Utah Graduate School of Business Executive Development Program will offer a revised curriculum when its 23rd training series for working executives begins Oct. 9.

David Dungan, director of executive education at the business school, says applications for the program will be accepted until about a week before classes start in Park City. The program was established in 1978 to further strengthen the effectiveness of experienced managers. The program includes lectures, discussions and case studies in management, finance, accounting, marketing, human resource management and economics. The course is designed to build on the management development activities of successful corporations.

Dungan says the newly revised curriculum will cover management negotiations, production management, strategic quality management, business ethics and marketing and leadership strategies.

Hundreds of mid- and upper-level managers from a wide range of businesses and industries have trained in the program's 11-year history. The companies whose executives have enrolled in the program include AT&T, Ore-Ida Foods Inc., Northwest Pipeline Co., J.R. Simplot, Utah Power & Light, ZCMI, Eaton-Kenway, Gibbons & Reed Construction, Questronics, DAVCOR, National Semiconductor, Hermes Associates, Hercules Inc., Amalgamated Sugar Co. and KALL-AM/KLCY-FM.

Dungan says the specially designed program gives managers the opportunity to interact with their professional peers from different backgrounds. The managers also receive instruction on how to apply the latest management techniques to the needs of their companies. Faculty from the Graduate School of Business and College of Business teach the courses, aided occasionally by guest lecturers from the business community.

Dungan traces the program's success to the quality of instruction and the opportunity for professional managers to interact with their peers from the business world in an academic setting. After an initial week of training, Oct. 9-13, 1989, the class will meet again on May 7-11, 1990, and Oct. 8-12, 1990.
