First lady Barbara Bush Wednesday morning began the first of 10 days of radiation treatment for eye swelling and impaired vision resulting from a troublesome thyroid condition, her office said. Mrs. Bush went to Walter Reed Army Medical Center for the 10-minute treatment, which will be repeated for each of the next nine days, said spokeswoman Jean Becker. The first lady suffers from Graves' disease, which has resulted in a swelling behind her eyes, causing tearing and double vision.
