Karl Malone of the Utah Jazz, who scored 61 points in a 144-96 victory over Milwaukee on Saturday, was named NBA Player of the Week on Monday.

Malone became only the 13th player in the NBA to score more than 60 points. It was the most points scored in a regular-season game since Michael Jordan of Chicago had 61 against Atlanta on April 16, 1987.Malone also had 18 rebounds and three steals in the game.

Also nominated were Charles Barkley of Philadelphia, Danny Manning of the Los Angeles Clippers, Reggie Theus of Orlando and Reggie Miller of Indiana.
