The interim chairman of the Navajo Nation paid the first of what he said will be several visits to Gov. Norm Bangerter as the leader of the country's 200,000 Navajo Indians.

Leonard Haskie, who was appointed interim chairman last March after the suspension of Peter MacDonald, said after the half-hour meeting Monday that he will likely return soon.Haskie outlined some of his concerns including a bill sponsored by Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, that would allow cases decided by tribal courts to be reviewed in the United States court system.

"We want to be left alone. We have demonstrated through the last 10 months that we are able to decide what's good for us," he said, a reference to the controversial removal of MacDonald.
