Richard Divers Hoopes, age 39, died October 22, 1990 in Alta Loma, Calif.

Born June 17, 1951 in Salt Lake City, Utah; to Harold W. and Virginia Lee Divers Hoopes. Married Kathryn Pope. Graduated Provo High in 1969. Received MBA from BYU in 1977. Was district manager of 10 Mervyn's Stores, from Victorville to West Covina. Has resided in various California cities, Atlanta, Georgia; Provo, Utah; and was raised in Salt Lake City. Served a mission for the LDS Church to Italy. Was an Eagle of Scout and Order of the Arrow. Also served as scouting co-ordinator and troop committee chairman. Member of the Alta Loma 2nd Ward and served as elder's quorum and young men's president, in several bishoprics, stake mission president; and was a member of the Oakland California Mission Presidency.Survivors: wife, Alta Loma; six children, Andrew Lee, Raquel, Richard Whitney, Jordan Douglas, Jessica and Jennifer Hoopes, all of Alta Loma; mother, Mrs. Virginia Hoopes, Provo, Utah; one sister, Mrs. Stanley (Claudia) Burdett, Salt Lake City; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dr. John A. Carver and wife Joan, of Provo; uncles and aunts, Mr. and Mrs. Ray L. (Eloise) Lillywhite, Alameda, California; Mr. and Mrs. Lorenzo N. (Stella) Hoopes, Oakland, California; Mr. and Mrs. B. I. Goalen; Dr. and Mrs. Lowell M. Durham, all of Salt Lake City; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his father and a sister Kathryn Hoopes Carver.

Private viewing will be held Saturday from 5-6 with public viewing from 6-9 p.m. at the Oakhills 5th Ward LDS Chapel, 1900 No. 1500 East, Provo. Graveside services will be Monday, 12 noon at the Brigham City Cemetery, 325 So. 300 East. Funeral services were held in Alta Loma.
