More than 260 athletes are expected to compete in the Pacific Coast Sectional Championship competition of the United States Figure Skating Association (USFSC) Jan. 8-12, at the Bountiful Recreation Center, 150 W. 600 North. The top finishers in the upper divisions qualify for the 1991 National Figure Skating Championships in Minneapolis Feb. 10-17.

For the first time, competition in figures and freestyle skating will be separate, a rule change effected internationally for 1991.Skaters qualified for the sectional by finishing fourth or better in the Pacific Coast Regional championship in Dublin, Calif., Nov. 26-Dec. 1.

Individual men's and women's events include senior figures, senior freestyle, junior figures, junior freestyle, novice figure, novice freestyle, intermediate figure and freestyle, adult junior freestyle and adult senior freestyle. Pair events include senior, junior, novice and intermediate. Dance events include senior, junior, novice, intermediate, adult senior and adult junior.

Practices will be at the Bountiful Recreation Center and at the Cottonwood Heights Recreation Center, 7500 S. 2700 East, Salt Lake City. The 1991 Pacific Coast Figure Skating Championships are sanctioned by the United States Figure Skating Association (UFSA) and hosted by the Utah Figure Skating Club (UFSC). Information regarding the schedule of events and tickets is available from the Utah Figure Skating Club or the Bountiful Recreation Center Ice Arena. Practice sessions may be attended without cost.
