Two inmates accused of trashing a common area of the Uinta II unit at the Utah State Prison have been arraigned in 3rd Circuit Court on third-degree felony charges of injuring a jail.

David Jolivet, 31, and Corstiaan VanZyverden, 17, are scheduled for a roll call Feb. 20, 9:30 a.m. before 3rd Circuit Judge Sheila K. McCleve to receive a preliminary hearing date.The two were detained by SWAT team members after a "sting ball" grenade was tossed into the area. The two are accused of breaking windows in the 12-cell maximum-security unit and of smashing in a television set.

Jolivet is serving five sentences for aggravated kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault, rape, aggravated robbery and forcible sodomy. VanZyverden is serving a sentence for second-degree robbery.

The two have refused court-appointed lawyers and are expected to represent themselves or obtain their own attorneys, a court clerk said.
