Nuclear Times magazine, which bills itself as a journal covering "issues and activism for global survival," staged a comeback Sunday with a new quarterly issue, its first since April.

First published in 1982, Nuclear Times was once dubbed "the peace movement's most popular magazine" by The New York Times. It published its last issue in April 1989 to redesign and become a quarterly, said editor John Tirman. Its new edition, with a circulation of 30,000, features articles on environmental politics, the upcoming Nicaraguan election and an essay by Yugoslavian dissidents on Eastern Europe's future challenges, among others.

"Global politics are the politics of the '90s. The Gorbachev phenomenon, the revolution in Eastern Europe, conflict in Central America and Africa, environmental destruction - all convince us that political life must be worldwide in scope," Tirman said.
