The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has decided to build a temple in the Bountiful area, members of the church in that area learned Sunday.

A letter from the church's First Presidency about the temple was read in stake conferences and other gatherings Sunday. In May 1988, church officials announced that property had been purchased for the possible construction of a temple.

A letter read Sunday that was signed by President Ezra Taft Benson and his counselors, President Gordon B. Hinckley and Thomas S. Monson, confirmed that the temple will be constructed.

"We are confident that this announcement will be welcomed by the many faithful Latter-day Saints residing in the Davis County area," the letter stated.
