Three men convicted of second-degree murder in the death of a co-worker at a brine shrimp camp on the west shore of the Great Salt Lake were sentenced Tuesday in 1st District Court.

The fourth defendant will have a second trial beginning Feb. 26.Raymond Phillip Cabututan, 25, Salt Lake City, was sentenced to five years to life for his part in the beating death of Miguel Ramirez, 48, Salt Lake City, on Oct. 26, 1989. He was also sentenced to zero to five years for aggravated assault and six months for using a dangerous weapon during the fight.

Judge F.L. Gunnell ordered the sentences to be served concurrently. Cabututan was ordered to pay $5,000 restitution to the family of the victim and to reimburse Box Elder County for the fees of his public defender.

William Robert Cummins, 28, Philadelphia, Penn., was sentenced to five years to life for second-degree murder. He was also ordered to pay $5,000 restitution and reimbursement to the county for attorney's fees.

Donald Wayne Brown, 32, Conroe, Texas, was sentenced to five years to life for second-degree murder and zero to five years for aggravated assault, plus restitution and attorney's fees.

Billy Cayer, 46, Salt Lake City, was scheduled for a second trial after a jury was unable to reach a verdict. Cayer Tuesday rejected an offer Tuesday to plead guilty to a reduced charge of manslaughter.
