A 5-year-old lapsed into a coma after a friend of his mother's handed him a bottle of bourbon and told him to "drink it like a man," police said.
Anthony Jimerson, 21, of Forest Hills was jailed on $100,000 bail on charges of causing injury to a child. Police in suburban Everman said Raymond Griffin was given the alcohol at a party Friday night."The guy took the lid off the bottle, gave it to the kid and he took a big swallow," said Sgt. Mark Bigler.
Raymond, who weighs about 60 pounds, drank about 10 ounces of bourbon - roughly the equivalent of a fifth of alcohol for an average adult, Bigler said.
The boy was in critical condition Monday in a coma at Cook-Fort Worth Children's Medical Center, where he was taken Saturday after he went into convulsions, authorities said.
At one point, the boy's blood-alcohol level was about .55 percent - more than five times the legal limit for driving in many states - and he probably will suffer brain damage, the officer said.
Jimerson had been invited to play dominoes at the home of Raymond's mother, Patricia Griffin, 31, police said.
