H. Reese Hansen, who has been serving as acting dean of BYU's J. Reuben Clark Law School, has been named dean of the school by university Pres. Rex E. Lee.
Hansen, a professor of law and former assistant dean and associate dean, became acting dean last July when Bruce C. Hafen became BYU provost.The new dean joined the law school faculty in 1974 after two years with the law firm of Strong, Poelman and Fox in Salt Lake City.
He is co-author of works on the Idaho and Utah probate systems.
He obtained his bachelor of science degree at Utah State University and his J.D. degree at the University of Utah where he was research editor, note editor and member of the executive board of editors of the Utah Law Review.
He also was a member of the Order of the Coif, an honorary society for those who have excelled in law school.
The Newton, Utah, native is on the admission rules committee of the Utah State Bar, member of the Commission on Uniform State Laws, and former member of the Utah Commission on Education for Law and Citizenship and the board of litigation of the Mountain States Legal Foundation.
