A man who has a stolen diamond lodged in his colon will be allowed to keep the gem because of the difficulty in getting it out of him, authorities said Friday.
But Kim Bowman, 35, of Independence, received a suspended prison sentence and must pay restitution, Jackson County officials said."It would cost us $50,000 in surgery to get a $5,000 diamond," said Tim Dollar, assistant Jackson County prosecutor. "Essentially, he bought a diamond."
Bowman pleaded guilty Thursday in Jackson County Circuit Court to stealing three loose diamonds from two jewelry stores in January. He was ordered to pay nearly $4,000 in restitution for the cost of one of the diamonds, which was almost a carat.
