A new park in Salt Lake City's Avenues will be named Popperton Park, Mayor Palmer DePaulis announced this week in connection with his ongoing Name the Park Contest.
The new park, on 11th Avenue west of Virginia Street, is named after Charles Popper who settled in 1864 on nearby land where he built a slaughterhouse, corral and other buildings, DePaulis said."In keeping with our attempt to provide historical relevance to the names of our vest-pocket parks, the Name the Park Committee has voted to name this new park after one of the property's original owners," DePaulis said.
The next park to be a part of the contest is located next to Foothill Village on Thirteenth South. Suggestions can be sent until April 30 to Name the Park Contest, Office of the Mayor, 451 S. State, Salt Lake City, UT 84111.
