Gawinn Bennion Gardner, age 63, died at his home in Holladay on Easter Sunday, April 15, 1990.
For nearly eight years he battled many illnesses.He was born November 23, 1926, in Afton, Wyoming, the son of Wallace Ivan and Gladys Bennion Gardner. On August 5, 1953, he married Carol Pat Kirk in the Idaho Falls Temple. They are the parents of four children.
He served in the Armed Forces during World War II. He graduated from Utah State University and the University of Utah College of Medicine. He completed a fellowship at the Mayo Clinic and was a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons.
Twice serving as Chief of Staff at Sunrise Hospital, he practiced medicine in Las Vegas, Nevada until his retirement in 1980. He was a faithful member of the LDS Church, fulfilling many callings. He was devoted to his family and to his patients. Generosity and a wonderful sense of humor were two of his many fine qualities.
He loved books, learning, and music. He was a talented pianist, organist, and in his younger days he played the trombone. He was a magnificent man who will be sorely missed.
Surviving are his wife; daughters, Gayle and Susan, Holladay; sons, Phillip K. and his wife, Jill, Las Vegas, Nevada; Matthew K., serving in the Washington, D.C. South Spanish-speaking mission; grandchildren, Jennie, Adam, Gregory, and Steven; sisters, Ardis Manning, Claron Gibbons, Karma Cook, Gladys Gardner; brothers, Mervyn Gardner, O. David Gardner. Preceded in death by sister, Wamoth Tanner, and brothers, Wallace Gardner and Ben Gardner.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, April 18, 1990, at 1 p.m., at the Mackay Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 Highland Drive. Interment, Mackay Holladay Memorial Park, 4900 Memory Lane.
