George Elliott Thornley, 76, died Sunday April 29, 1990 at the Logan Valley Nursing Center.

He was born April 19, 1914 at Smithfield, Utah. He was the son of James and Mary Alice Smith Thornley. He married Rosella Nelson, July 21, 1937 in the Logan LDS Temple. He received his education in Cache County, graduated from North Cache High School and Utah State University. He was an educator and had taught in the Cache County schools. He was an active member of the LDS Church, holding many positions.Survived by widow, Smithfield, Utah; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry Elliott and Cleo Murray Thornley, Richmond, Utah; two daughters and sons-in-law, DeAnn and Jeff LeMieux, Paso, Washington; Mary Lou and Jay Gittins, Smithfield, Utah; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Heber Floyd Thornley, Logan, Utah and a sister, Cherrille Johnson, Wood Cross, Utah; preceded in death by one great-grandchild; two brothers, one sister.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 12 noon, in the Smithfield 4th LDS Ward Chapel, 179 No. First East, with Bishop John A. Merkly conducting. Friends may call at the Nelson Funeral Home in Smithfield, 85 South Main, Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and at the 4th Ward Wednesday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Burial: Smithfield City Cemetery.
