It wasn't long after the Dodge motor car hit the streets that people were being invite into Hinckley's in Mount Pleasant to see what made it roll. In fact, it was about a year after the first 1914 Dodge was made.
Today, Hinckley's is located in Salt Lake City and Ogden, and will be celebrating its 75th year in the motoring business. Part of that celebration will be the Salt Lake 500 New Car Sell-Off. As part of the Sell-Off it will be offering the largest discounts and factory rebates in its history - and with Hinckley's that going back a long ways.Looking back over the years, many a Dodge car has passed between the overhead doors. It is, after all, the largest volume Dodge dealership in the intermountain area.
None of the cars, though, is Hinckley's more proud of than this year's lineup.
Aside from a number of visual changes, four of the cars - Dodge Daytona, Dodge Grand Caravan, Dodge Dynasty and Dodge Shadow - will have a different sound. The four have new powerplants.
Leading the power parade is a 2.2-liter variable nozzle turbocharged (VNT) engine. The new engine has virtually eliminated the lag associated with turbo engines.
The Daytona will carry with it a 3.0-liter V6 for added kick. Aside from the engine, the instrument panel offers low-travel, finger-tip switches for regularly used functions along the trailing edge of the instrument cluster hood forward of the steering wheel. It also offers a driver's-side air bag.
With the Dynasty, there are three new colors on the outside and on the inside, an automatic day/night mirror, eight-way adjustable seat, and a luxury leather wrapped steering wheel are new options on the LE model. Also new is an instrument panel with rounded contours, rear shoulder and lap restraints on the outboard seats, and a one-touch driver's side power window.
Other models include the Omni, still among the lowest priced subcompacts, and the Colt (imported from Mitsubishi), which received new GT performance and appearance packages to add punch inside and pizzazz outside.
Along with the cars comes the Hinckley's tradition of excellence. Over the years, Hinckley's has been honor for its service and efficiency. Included in its awards is the Chrysler 5-Star Service Award and the Distinguished Dealer Award, which is given for the highest sales, highest training and highest community and customer serivce.
