An undercover FBI agent was so trusted by members of the Patriarca crime family that they confided their illegal activities to him and included him in some illicit ventures, according to an affidavit filed in U.S. District Court.
Special Agent Vincent delaMontaigne spent 21/2 years gathering evidence against reputed mobsters in New England. The affidavit, excerpts of which were published Friday by The Providence (R.I.) Journal, was introduced as evidence in the indictments of reputed New England mob boss Raymond "Junior" Patriarca and nearly two dozen other suspected members of the Patriarca crime family.DelaMontaigne was introduced to Boston-area mobsters by two brothers who became informants for the FBI in Los Angeles, according to the affidavit.
DelaMontaigne soon earned the trust of suspected mobster Antonio L. "Spucky" Spagnolo, of Revere, Mass. In 1987, Spagnolo and delaMontaine talked about hiring a courier to bring cocaine up from Florida, the affidavit said.
DelaMontaigne also earned the trust of reputed Patriarca capo regime Biagio DiGiacomo.
