Most people don't like to think about the possibility that their homes may be burglarized. Residential burglary, however, is a growing problem, according to the Government Employees Insurance Cos.

GEICO offers the following tips to help make your home more secure and discourage burglars:- Make sure that you have sufficient exterior lights to illuminate your home. Burglars don't want to be in the spotlight.

- Trim the shrubbery around your house so a burglar can't hide near windows and doors.

- Keep garage doors closed and locked when not in use.

- Secure all windows and sliding-glass doors with pins or auxiliary locks.

- Install heavy-duty, deadbolt locks on exterior doors.

- Immediately report any suspicious people or activity to the police.

- Keep doors locked.
