Most people don't like to think about the possibility that their homes may be burglarized. Residential burglary, however, is a growing problem, according to the Government Employees Insurance Cos.
GEICO offers the following tips to help make your home more secure and discourage burglars:- Make sure that you have sufficient exterior lights to illuminate your home. Burglars don't want to be in the spotlight.
- Trim the shrubbery around your house so a burglar can't hide near windows and doors.
- Keep garage doors closed and locked when not in use.
- Secure all windows and sliding-glass doors with pins or auxiliary locks.
- Install heavy-duty, deadbolt locks on exterior doors.
- Immediately report any suspicious people or activity to the police.
- Keep doors locked.
